The RISE framework

RISE — Resource and Incubation Support for Entrepreneurship — is a shared language for everyone in the ecosystem, from first idea to a funded, growing business.

RISE stands for Resource and Incubation Support for Entrepreneurship. It is a shared language for everyone in the ecosystem, from first idea to a funded, growing business. It helps founders see which kind of support fits their stage, and helps support organisations describe their programmes in the same terms.

The five phases

1. Discovery

Explore ideas and spot opportunities through workshops, vocational training and market-readiness programmes.

Typical support: university workshops · vocational training · market readiness

2. Mastery

Build skills and sharpen business ideas through technical training, hackathons, leadership and team formation.

Typical support: technical training · hackathons · leadership

3. Launch

Formalise the business: register the company, join incubation or co-working, and enter the market.

Typical support: registration · incubation · co-working

4. Growth

Scale operations, reach new markets and build partnerships through acceleration and mentorship.

Typical support: acceleration · mentorship · market expansion

5. Funding

Reach angel investors, venture capital and bank finance, and get investment-ready.

Typical support: angel networks · VC access · investment readiness

How RISE is used

Organisations and programmes on the Iraq Ecosystem Map can carry one or more RISE phases, so that a founder can find the support that matches their stage. When the map opens to everyone, each phase will link to the matching organisations and programmes.

The phases are not a ranking. A programme for people exploring their first idea matters as much as one for companies raising investment.
